My name is Aigars Jurgelans. I am a casino professional with experience in all departments and various positions. If you are reading this within the next month or so you are probably staying at home just like me because of the coronavirus lock-down.
The first days at home were filled with fear and uncertainty. I realized that nothing in the world would be the same anymore and that the phrase “When everything gets back to normal…”, used by many hoping that after the lock-down they will get back to the old routine, was quite quixotic. I do not remember who said that there is no need to worry if it is not in your power to change the situation but this attitude helped me to stay calm.
Well, I just looked it up on the WEB and here is the Buddhist proverb:
“If you have a problem that can be fixed, then there is no use in worrying. If you have a problem that cannot be fixed, then there is no use in worrying.”
I decided to take it easy and enjoy having a rest. For somebody who was used to working about 60 hours a week a sudden “quiet time” was not at all comfortable. I had to change my habits fast and make them good ones instead of indulging in drinking beer while watching some Netflix series. I am fortunate that there is a mountain not far from my home. I started hiking/jogging every day spending a lot of time exercising and getting plenty of sunshine and fresh air. It was a fantastic change of environment. Those who were spending their working hours on smoke filled casino floors will agree that fresh air for us working in casino business is a luxury.
Unfortunately, my joy did not last for long – a curfew was introduced which meant staying at home. I had to change my routine again. At first, the thought of staying at home was extremely daunting. Then I decided to start a blog to share my experience as a casino professional.
I know that a lot of you are in quarantine bored out of your mind, some of you are stressed out beyond all belief, some of you are saying this is all a hoax and there is no need to worry about anything. There is a lot of chaos right now in the world and the only thing we can control is our mind set, the things that we are focusing on, the things we are putting into our brain and so I am choosing to focus my mind on things that I can influence and things that I can change. These are probably the best personal development weeks we will ever have. This is a great time to address ourselves. If we make some effort we can come out of this fitter and stronger, both physically and mentally. You will find many professional online courses that you can take now and many fitness programs designed especially for current times.
In my next posts I will be sharing some resources that I use myself and find valuable.
Stay healthy!
